What's coming?
Namdalen Wilderness Lodge is an old farm by Langfjordvatnet in Pasvikdalen, about 30 minutes from Kirkenes. There is no road to the farm. In summer we take you across the water by boat, and in winter by snowmobile and sled over the ice.
Around the farm there is pine forest, silence and no light pollution. This is a real Norwegian cabin, not a hotel: warm and comfortable, but simple. The water comes from a well, and you wash yourself in the wood-fired sauna, as is done in many cabins in Norway.
Couples stay in the gammen, a small turf hut built into the ground, with a wood stove and space for two. The toilet is outside, a short distance away. Larger groups stay in the converted barn, with four heated bedrooms for up to 9 people, a living room and an indoor toilet.
Meals are served in the old chicken coop, which is now a dining room with underfloor heating. The farmhouse has a fully equipped kitchen where you can cook your own food. All buildings are heated, and the three outhouses have both light and heat.
You only rent the accommodation, much like a holiday home. Meals, sauna and guided activities can be added on request. In winter, for example, it can be dog sledding, snowshoeing, ice fishing and northern lights tours, and in summer hiking, fishing, swimming and berry and mushroom picking.
From late August to early April, the nights are dark, and you can look for the Northern Lights right outside your door. Nearby is Øvre Pasvik National Park, Norway's first certified Dark Sky Park. From mid-May to late July, there is the midnight sun.
