What you will experience

Ice fishing is one of the most typical winter activities in Northern Norway. On this trip you will fish on a border lake where one third is in Norway and two thirds in Russia.

The lake is located about 20 minutes by car from Kirkenes, surrounded by birch forests and low hills. From the ice you can see Storskog, the only official border crossing between Norway and Russia, with the border stations of both countries.

We go out onto the Norwegian part of the ice, drill holes and show you how to fish for perch and char. While you wait for bait, we light a small fire right on the ice, grill reindeer sausages and serve hot drinks. The guide tells about the history of the border, the nature and wildlife of the Arctic and everyday life in Kirkenes today.

The trip is easy and suitable for families and all ages. On the way back we stop at Storskog, so you can see the border crossing up close.
